BIO: Darren Ornitz is a visual story teller based in New York. He studied at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University before graduating from Fordham University in 2008 with a degree in Fine Arts & African Studies.
His documentaries focus on in-depth narratives and stories which highlight issues surrounding vulnerable populations of people. Most recently he has been working on a long term project about a gang intervention and reintegration program in Casco Viejo, Panama, spotlighting alterative methods to incarceration for at-risk youth.
He has traveled extensively throughout over forty countries primarily throughout Latin America, Africa, & the Middle East. His work has been published in the New York Times, Washington Post, Bloomberg, Roads & Kingdoms, Travel + Escape, Matador, and by various NGO's.
In addition to photography Darren works as a meditation teacher for adolescents at Rikers prison in New York.
